Pound described melopoeia as the emotional correlations achieved by the sound and rhythm of the speech. He described phanopoeia as that writing which relies upon throwing a visual image on the mind. Logopoeia involves stimulating the associations (intellectual or emotional) that have remained in the receiver's consciousness in relation to the actual words or word groups employed.The interrelationship of melopoeia, phanopoeia, and logopoeia – an obvious extension of Pound’s taxonomy – results in a literature in which – relying on – combining –all three – culminates in a fiction [or poetry] in which meaning – larger than and incorporating literal meaning – arises from the composition of words under the sway of a sound and rhythm that influences the visual image that penetrates the willing mind of the active reader to remain in the reader’s consciousness. The purpose of this fiction [poetry] is not only the momentary pleasures of a reading but to be a fiction that lingers – for a lifetime – in the readers’ own history of reading.The four writers on this panel strive for that kind of fiction in a post-Poundian post-modern openness, a fiction that, by its melopoeia, by its phanopoeia achieves a lasting logopoeia
